Alien Species Threaten the Hanalei River Ecosystem
|
The major threat to native animals in the Hanalei river is introduced species such as guppies www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dar/stream_aliens.htm which have eliminated native insects from large portions of the river. Other introduced predatory fish such as swordtails eat the o'opu larvae as they try to drift out to sea or return to the river.
